Retiring AI Rename

AI Rename, my on-device PDF renamer for macOS, is leaving the App Store. Here is why, what happens to existing installs, and a note on what replaces it.

AI Rename has been retired and is no longer available on the Mac App Store.

The app renamed PDF files using on-device AI, and it was also my first native macOS app built almost entirely with AI assistance. That story is told in How I Wrote a Swift Mac App Without Speaking Swift.

What this means if you already have it

  • The app keeps working on your Mac. Nothing is removed from your machine.
  • You can still re-download it from your App Store purchase history as long as Apple keeps the binary available.
  • The support and privacy pages stay up.
  • No new versions or fixes will be released.

What replaces it

Something broader than a renamer. My purchase paperwork now runs through a dot, OpenAI's always-on agent, which reads the inbox, saves the receipt with a good name, updates the spreadsheet, verifies both, and only then archives the email. The full write-up, including the rules I had to add before I trusted it, is here: Receipts That File Themselves.
